It’s illuminating to look back and view your life’s work, considering the contributions you believe you’ve made and the goals you hope you’ve achieved. Reflection may very well be the catalyst that catapults you forward as you realize there are so many more dreams to fulfill. For me, I’ve wanted to write and publish a novel since age 5! I tried to sell an early version of my plan to my frowning first-grade teacher back in Louisville, Kentucky quite a number of years ago. To this day I still remember my suspicious teacher slowly moving her head from left to right as I pleaded my case. I planned to blast off to the moon and report back my findings to the local paper (The Courier Journal, no less) for all who might miss the opportunity to travel in space, and if that plan failed, I pledged to write space stories to replace the boring tales stored in our reading textbooks. Hands on her hips, glasses atop her head, Mrs. Doubt sighed and explained, “Dearest, I don’t think you’ll be doing that. You’re…you’re probably too small to even go to the moon.” What? In retrospect, I think she was trying to say ‘girls don’t go to the moon,’ but that’s an entirely different issue. Honestly, I may have subliminally decided to become a teacher that day based upon enduring her lame response to my well-stated premise. Even so, I certainly knew at a young age that I wanted to report and write about events. While I missed my space exploration, I continue my writing adventure. Emphatically, I’ve accepted a “100-day book challenge,” which means I’m committed to writing the first draft of a 250-300 page novel within the next 100 days. To that end, I’ll be sharing posts and photos here at WordPress, ocassionally tweeting, updating LinkedIn, and eventually establishing an author website, as I discover the winding road a 21st-century writer is advised to travel enroute to successful publication. What’s the novel about? It offers a touch of fantasy, a breath of erotica, a dose of sarcasm, a teaspoon of Southern charm, and that’s just for starters. Stay tuned.
